Skilled Counsel for Parents Considering Adoption

The practice of family law doesn't always involve the resolution of highly charged disputes related to divorce or division of marital property.  We love the opportunity to help prospective parents thinking about adoption. It is one of the happiest processes in family law.  If you are thinking about making your home available for a child who needs parents, contact our office.

Our lawyers are thoroughly familiar with the provisions of Texas family law that apply to various types of adoptions.  Our practical advice and attention to detail can help you avoid the mistakes that can lead to unnecessary delays and expenses.

We advise adoptive parents through all stages of the adoption procedure, from the initial decision to adopt through the background check to the final hearing.  In some situations, we also take the steps necessary for the formal termination of the parental rights of a surviving biological parent.

Adoption Advice

Each family benefits from our close interaction so that we can spot potential complications or delays early enough to resolve them. Our advice for adoptive parents can help in varied situations:

Open adoption

Agency adoption

Grandparent adoption

Stepparent adoption

Foster parent adoption

Relative adoption by an aunt, uncle, sibling or other relative

Every adoption case is unique and our services are individualized for your particular case needs.  We help educate parents through pre-placement consultations about the adoption process.

In private adoptions there are several legal steps that must be completed before the adoption may  be granted.  Our firm will handle the preparation of the legal documents required to be signed and executed by the birth parents. We will file the necessary law suits required to terminate the parental rights of the biological parents and supplemental pleadings and documents necessary to complete the adoption. Depending on your preferences, we can even arrange for the issuance of the new birth certificate for your child. If you are adopting a child from another state, we can navigate you through the sometimes confusing law known as the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children.

If you find yourself in a dispute over custody, in a contested adoption, it can be emotionally draining and complex.  However, you will feel confident moving forward having an experienced law firm that can help.  Our lawyers are experienced trial litigators with extensive trial experience in all areas of family law.  The experience of aggressive, passionate trial lawyers on your side will prove to be a distinct advantage to the success of your case.  We have experience with all types of cases--from the uncontested cases where the birth parents participate and approve of the adoption, to cases where one parent may not agree to terminate their rights and want to fight, to cases where CPS has removed children from their homes and believe placement with another family is in the child's best interest.  We also have extensive experience in cases where the identify or location of the birth father is unknown and the legal measures required to either locate the father or, if impossible, the legal measures required to satisfy due process protections and convince the court that the adoption should go forward.

Regardless of where you are in the adoption process, the Law Office of Lori Elaine Laird will provide you invaluable experience that can help you successfully complete your adoption.  We look forward to meeting you and developing an individualized action plan to solve you adoption issues.  Call us today at 832-699-1966 for a confidential consultation or complete a client contact form to have one of our attorneys contact you.
